Refresh yourself on stand S111 at Ecobuild
Ecobuild is the world’s leading event for sustainable design, construction, energy and the built environment, covering topics as diverse as future cities, building performance, water, waste and materials, as well as green energy and design. Taking place from 4th to 6th March at ExCeL, London, it includes a full and varied conference and seminar programme, in addition to hundreds of stands containing environmentally sound products.
Wood is nature’s very own carbon sink, but left to themselves forests become carbon neutral since new trees only grow as old ones die and release their store of CO2. Harvesting trees as they mature makes room for new growth, whilst carbon remains stored throughout the life of the timber products which are made. In Europe and North America, where we source the vast majority of our products, hardwood growing stock is expanding dramatically, with greater demand resulting in more intensively managed forests and, consequently, a greater sequestration of CO2. It is interesting to note that just 10% increase in the number of wooden houses built in Europe would produce sufficient CO2 savings to meet a quarter of the reductions prescribed by the Kyoto Protocol!
Wood is both thermally efficient and energy efficient: every cubic metre of wood used as a substitute for other building materials reduces CO2 emissions by, on average, 1.1 tonnes. It stores carbon throughout its life: every cubic metre of wood flooring contains 5 kilograms of it; and even at the end of its life a wood product remains ecologically useful since it can be reused, recycled, or used as a carbon-neutral biomass energy substitute for fossil fuels.
Our 90 square metre stand at Ecobuild will be shared with our sister company, Strongdor, and will be packed with inspirational products. Some will be brand new, all will be ecologically sound, and it will certainly feature many from our recycled, PurePlankand Karelia ranges. We look forward to seeing you there.
